Isolation and Identification of Different Parasites from Catla Catla in Selected Districts of West Bengal, India

The present study was conducted to isolate and identify different parasites of gills and external body surface of Catla catla in different districts of West Bengal, India. During the study period the Severity of Infection and Parasitic Frequency Index (PFI, %) were also estimated in relation to months. They were isolated from the samples collected from South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts of West Bengal, India, for the period of 12 months ranging from April 2014 to March 2015. During the study period different types of parasites were observed such as Myxobolus sp., Thelohanellus sp., Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus sp., Argulus sp., Lernaea sp. Chilodonella sp., and Ergasillus sp. Most of the fishes were infested with different types of parasites in the gill and external body surface throughout the year. Among all the parasites the most dominant were Myxobolus sp. and Thelohanellus sp. Highest prevalence of Myxobolus sp. and Thelohanellus sp. were found in September’2014 and March’2015 respectively.
