Comparative Effects of Mango Seed Kernel Meal (MSKM) on Blood Profile and Growth Response of West African Dwarf Sheep and Goats

- Comparative effects of mango seed kernel meal (MSKM) on blood profile and growth response of West African dwarf (WAD) sheep and WAD goats was investigated. 48 animals comprising of 24 WAD sheep weighing between 11.00kg – 12.65kg and 24 WAD goats weighing 9.36kg – 11.35kg were randomly allotted to four dietary treatments with 6 sheep and 6 goats per treatment in a completely randomized design for twelve weeks. Treatment 1 was control with no MSKM. Treatments 2, 3 and 4 had 10, 20 and 30% inclusion of MSKM. Results were significantly affected (Pgnificant (Pn WAD sheep and WAD goats. WAD goats had highest average weight gain of 13.33kg (T3) above WAD sheep (T3 - 13.12kg), with average feed intake of 63.50kg for sheep and 72.13kg for goats, at feed conversion ratio of 4.84 for sheep and 5.44 for goats. WAD sheep performed better than WAD goats in MSKM utilization for growth. The results showed that MSKM is a good supplement in the diets of ruminants.
